Health Maintenance Organizations

Employers offer many different types of health insurance plans. Most employers are trying to get away from providing the traditional health maintenance organization (HMO) type of health plan and move to a more cost effective health insurance. HMO health insurance plans are very expensive for companies to offer. A HMO is a health insurance plan where the insured person pays a premium and simply pays a co-payment every time they go to the doctor or a specialist. The companies are paying a majority of the cost of these types of health plans. Companies are starting to provide health insurance plans where the employer and employee both share the cost of the premium as well as any doctor bills that arise, instead of the insured just paying a co-payment.
